BUYING FOR THE COLLECTION YOU OWN

Which magnetic tiles work together?

Match the connection before choosing the brand. Ordinary tile edges, miniature tiles and ball-run connectors ask different questions.

Do PicassoTiles work with MAGNA-TILES?

For ordinary full-size tiles, there is useful parent experience supporting the combination. Morgan’s photographed comparison at Celebrating with Kids reports that the sizes and magnet positions line up. The review also notices a small difference between the brands’ isosceles triangles. That supports mixing the reviewed tiles for building; it does not establish identical geometry across every shape or current set.

The review does not identify every set by model number. Treat it as reported experience, rather than a manufacturer guarantee covering mini tiles, car tracks or marble-run parts. For those additions, check the exact product line.

Two connections to tell apart

Tile to tile: magnets hold the pieces together along their edges. Tube to connector: a shaped fitting holds a ball-run tube inside a special tile. In the CONNETIX Bright Ball Run 122-piece Q&A, the Connetix Team explains that its tubes are not magnetic: they click into the tiles. A matching outer square therefore does not prove that another brand’s tube will fit.

Magnetic edges and a tube connector are different connectionsLeft: two squares meet along magnetic edges. Right: a tube fits through the opening in a connector square. Simplified schematic, not a drawing of an exact product.Magnetic edgesClick-in fitting
Magnetic edges on the left; a click-in fitting on the right. Schematic only: connector shapes vary. This is not a product fit template.

Buy for the build you want

More houses and towers? Lay out a favourite build and count what runs out first: squares for walls, triangles for roofs, or larger base pieces. Compare those quantities in the box contents. A larger total piece count is only helpful if it supplies the shapes you need.

Your first ball run? Choose a pack that includes its own matching tubes and connector tiles. Check ordinary supporting tiles separately: the Bright Ball Run listing, for example, distinguishes 24 standard tiles from its other components. Use that breakdown when deciding whether the pack adds enough building pieces for your plans. See the exact pack contents.

Already own a full-size PicassoTiles marble run? If connector squares are the shortage, PTE07 is a documented expansion. Its product diagram shows 3-inch squares with circular openings. If you need longer routes instead, compare tube contents: a joints-only pack will not supply them. Check PTE07’s contents and dimensions.

A quick check before ordering

  1. Identify your line. Copy the name and model number from the box or order history. Include “mini,” “nano” or “marble run” if present.
  2. Measure one square. Compare its side length with the new set’s dimensions. Similar photographs can hide different scales.
  3. Name the connection. Ask whether you need magnetic edges, tube joints or a particular track attachment to fit.
  4. Count useful pieces. Separate ordinary tiles, connector tiles, tubes and balls in the contents list.
  5. Check the exact age label. CONNETIX recommends 3+; the cited ball-run pack also carries small-ball warnings. Follow the chosen pack’s instructions.

Miniature pieces deserve a separate check. In Morgan’s size comparison, mini PicassoTiles attached to larger tiles but did not line up conveniently. Magnetic attraction alone is not the same as an easy mixed build.

When an addition arrives, try a small wall and corner on a flat surface before attempting a tall structure. If an unfamiliar tube fitting resists, return to its instructions rather than forcing it. Keep the packaging until you have checked the connection you bought it for.
